I am half Japanese and half Caucasian American. I was born in the US, grew up in Japan in the 1980s and 1990s, when there were very few foreigners. Everywhere I went people stared, as if I were something unfamiliar. I hated it. Moving back to the U.S. for grad school finally felt more like being “home,” but there have still been times and places where I didn’t quite fit.

Then came a shift: more mixed-race children and a growing awareness of mixed identities. That momentum inspired me to create Amasian Brand — a space to strengthen and celebrate Asian-American identity.

“Amasian” stands for American-Asian. It welcomes anyone who identifies as both American and Asian: whether you’re 100% Asian, partly Asian, or not Asian by blood but connected to someone who is. Our goal is to build a larger, more supportive community where we lift each other up and take pride in our blended heritage.

We aren’t defined by simple color labels.

We are Amasian!

A busy city street at night illuminated by numerous colorful neon and digital billboards. Traffic, including cars and a motorcycle, is moving through the intersection, and pedestrians are walking along the sidewalks. Trees line the street, and various signs and storefronts are visible.

So, what the heck is Amasian?
